Parish assistance

Monks of St. Procopius Abbey who are ordained priests have helped throughout the years in parishes. In the past, priest-monks were sometimes sent to other states, to help in ethnic parishes (usually Czech). Today, though, our assistance to parishes is local, particularly within the Diocese of Joliet

The assistance given is predominantly "weekend assistance" -- that is, priest-monks go to parishes to help say some of the Sunday Masses there. On occasion, they also offer help for the sacrament of reconciliation. A couple of monks help full-time at the nearby parish of St. Joan of Arc, with which the abbey has had a long relationship of involvement.

Sacramental ministry is also offered to students, faculty, and staff in our schools, Benedictine University and Benet Academy, and to some women's convents in the area.
